Gabriel De La Cruz (b. 1995) is a German writer of Greek and Filipino parentage. The composition is not decoration; it is the ground condition of the work — a writer for whom no single geography was ever simply home, and who treats that condition as a subject to be examined rather than a story to be sold.
For more than a decade he has worked inside the borderless corporate world his fiction describes: assignments across Mexico City, Italy, and the financial centres of Europe, rarely a full month in one place. He is that uncommon thing in contemporary fiction — a writer reporting on transnational working life from inside it, not observing it from a residency. The precision of the book’s surfaces, from boardroom etiquette to the choreography of an airport, is lived, not researched.
